Diamond TRM1 Tremolo

This was my first Diamond pedal, and I have to say... I'm impressed.

This green monster has a lot to offer and I can see why it is beloved by so many. It offers a complex feature set in a tiny package.

3 of the wave shapes on this pedal operate via the optical tremolo circuit, but there is a chop mode that offers hard edged square wave stutter type tremolo and this is transistor based. Diamond offered this up on TGP.

"Our Tremolo is optical on 3 of 4 waveforms (Sine, Sharktooth and Square). The fourth waveform is a transistor controlled 'chop' where the Depth control becomes a duty cycle control."

The pedal features tap tempo, it has 3 modes for choosing sub-divisions. Quarter note, eighth note, and triplet.

Rhythmic mode offers 2 different rhythms. I think this particular mode is wasted potential.

Chaos mode has random speeds based around where you have the speed knob set.

There is also a momentary mode which is handy for burst of tremolo obviously. In most of the modes it acts as you would expect, allowing you to bring in tremolo when depressed. But in chop mode, if you depress it, it acts as a kill switch :)

As far as wave forms, you have Sine, Shark fin, Square, and Stutter. The difference between square and stutter is the sharp edges. Square on this pedal, like many other optical based tremolos, does not have hard edges. Stutter mode however has extremely hard edges. The depth knob changes behavior with Chop, and instead allows you to modify the duty cycle which is spiffy.

The pedal also offers a volume control, this is considered by many a must on a tremolo pedal. Especially for live use, so that any perceivable volume drop due to the tremolo effect can be compensated for, or some use it as a boost.

Lastly, you have double time, which is accessed by holding the tap switch.

Overall the pedal sounds extremely nice. It's quiet, it feels solid. It has a feature set that many are drawn to.

There are 3 primary wave forms, if you are going to include multiple wave forms, most people include these. Triangle, Sine, Square. Diamond did not offer Triangle as an option. So all you Boss TR-2 lovers, if that is something you are looking for, you wont find it here.

Second is the rhythmic mode as stated above. I think they could have included a lot more rythms in this mode. Only including 2 seems a bit silly.

Aside from those 2 minor nit picks however, this is a solid pedal! It definatley wont be the last Diamond pedal I check out.

Slowest Speed: 1520ms/cycle
Fastest Speed: ~86ms/cycle
